The preparations on the morning of your wedding is the calm before the day really kicks off! The butterflies set in, and the day has finally arrived! You want to surround yourself with the perfect team to make you look glam! If you’re anything like me you might not wear lots of make up and the thought of trusting someone else is quite daunting. But TRUST me when I say you want someone who is going to work with you to create a fabulous look!
If you haven’t found a makeup artist let me introduce you to the incredibly talented Liv. She is an amazing makeup artist, who I had the pleasure of working with on the Electric Love Styled shoot. I loved the different looks she creates, but she still makes Brides look like themselves. I gave her a rough brief of the style I wanted to create and she nailed it. Just look how incredible Luci looks, she is upbeat, friendly and she has ALL the kit!
I had a catchup with her and she shared her tips and how to choose a bridal makeup look.
So tell me how did you get into make up and become a makeup artist?
I’ve been obsessed with makeup since my early 20’s and I worked in the marketing departments of cosmetics companies for about 4 years, so my passion for makeup grew alongside my day job. After being made redundant, I decided that was the universe telling me it was time to go for it! And Makeup By Liv was born!
How would you describe your style?
Classic but glamorous bridal, and I do LOVE a statement lipstick! I’ve officially lost count of the number of lip products I own!
What advice would you give brides when choosing a wedding look?
Whatever you choose, it should feel like you. And above all else, choose a look at YOU want. There’ll be plenty of outside opinions about how you should look at your wedding, but remember it is YOUR big day. My goal is to make you feel like the best version of yourself.
There are so many wedding looks to choose from! Can you share three different makeup looks for brides, and tell us a bit about them.
The first one is your classic bridal – a soft brown smokey eye with a pop of gold or rose gold, and a set of demi-wispy lashes. This look suits everyone, no matter age or skin tone.
The second is au naturale – this is really a more polished version of your everyday look, for brides that don’t wear a lot of makeup. Professional cameras that your photographer will use on the day will wash you out if you don’t wear any makeup at all, so even a natural look will probably feel like a lot, but you’ll look perfect in your photos. I would also recommend individual lashes for a more natural eye look.
Lastly there’s all out glam – a full smokey eye and a statement lip. This is the look I went for on my wedding day. I had a Christmas wedding so well glamorous with a fluffy set of lashes and a burgundy lip.
What’s your number one skincare top tip, to look fabulous on your wedding day?
HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE. That means drinking a lot of water and keeping your skin moisturised.
Between hen do’s, work send-off drinks and the stress of planning, a lot of brides say they never drank as much alcohol as they did in the lead up to the wedding day! Which can lead to spot prone skin. Drink as much water as you can, particularly in the last 3 weeks before the big day. And if you want a facial in the run up to the day, I’d allow 10 days for your skin to recover before the wedding.
In terms of a moisturiser, I am absolutely loving the Clinique 72 Hour Moisture Surge Hydrator at the moment, but ask a dermatologist if you’re unsure what you need.
What’s your favourite trend at the moment?
I love that lipstick trends have swung back towards a glossy lip. I love a matte lipstick as much as the next person, but its been ruling the roost for about 5 years now, and I think a glossier, healthy glow with a dash of colour is so flattering. Just this month Huda Beauty have launched a balm that plays right into that trend, and Charlotte Tilbury’s new lip oil is top of my list too!
Lastly, what’s your highlight moment been so far as a makeup artist?
There’s been so many already! Working with AMW Events and co at the Electric Love shoot, being featured on Gay Wedding Blog, and working with my amazing bridal partner in crime, Stacey at Salonista Ltd. And with all the weddings that 2021 holds, I’m sure there’s some future highlights in there too!
Thank you so much for chatting with me, and I hope you guys found it helpful! I’m going to be featuring another amazing supplier soon so make sure you check out next blog!
